Horses, horses, horses…are we in the wild, wild West?
Yes, Aachen is the wild, wild West of Germany!
Once a year Aachen is full of horses, small and big, horse lovers and equestrian enthusiasts…It is CHIO! It is the official abbreviation for „Concours Hippique International Officiel“ unofficially this means: the city is full of tourists, nice parties, a slight smell of horse sh*t in the air, dishwasher jobs for the students and all hotel rooms are booked!
The CHIO is an international horse show, where competitions in jumping, dressage and vaulting besides others are held.
The event started in 1924 and has become an „Aachen tradition“ since then.
Aacheners love the days when their city is the middle of attention, famous people come to visit and they enjoy hosting all of the tourists, showing off their best side!
Students can be lucky and get a job as a waitress or dishwasher at one of the many catering tents at the CHIO show grounds. There is something for everyone in these crazy horse days!
No matter if you like horses or not, besides carnival it is THE event to be, when you are in Aachen!
